Eastern Frisia, bounded on the north by the North Sea and the west by The Netherlands, has been called the Dutch part of Germany. Lin Strong will present an introduction to picturesque Ostfriesland, its history, culture and customs, and how to research there.

She also edits the journal and explores Europe whenever possible. Lin has taken groups of OGSA members to Ostfriesland for more than 20 years introducing them to the villages where their ancestors lived. She's been a commercial real estate appraiser, artist and former director of a county historical society. Lin has taught classes in genealogy throughout the Midwest and in Ostfriesland.

The Alsace-Lorraine Region
Tuesday, May 27
The Alsace-Lorraine Region  (SGGS Meetings and Events)
10:00 am
Zoom
Presented by Dr. Richard Haberstroh, AG. This talk will describe the details of two separate genealogical studies, both focused on locating the birthplace of Alsatian immigrants to the United States in the 19th century, without  locating any document that specifically names their town of origin in Alsace. Various useful search strategies are presented, as are some interesting and important characteristics of various Alsatian records available to researchers.  Also critical to these cases is the significance of circumstantial evidence, and how it can be used to form convincing arguments for the conclusion as to the birthplaces of the immigrants.

Registration will open after the April 29 presentation.
